Spenser is a software developer working primarily in Ruby on Rails and React. He most recently spent three years at Prolegis, helping build and maintain a web platform used by federal congressional offices, working across the stack: designing databases, building the data pipelines behind them, implementing search, and shaping the interface people use day to day. That work also included practical applications of large language models, such as automated summarization of congressional bills and agentic tools for development and testing.

Before Prolegis, he worked at a venture-backed fintech startup with a globally distributed team, building and maintaining the Rails services behind its financial data. He automated partner reporting that once took hours down to minutes, and helped onboard and mentor newer developers.

He's comfortable working across a broad set of tools and technologies, including Ruby on Rails, React, Hotwire (Turbo/Stimulus), PostgreSQL, SQLite, Active Storage, Sidekiq, OpenSearch, AWS (S3, Bedrock), and Tailwind CSS. He also regularly uses AI coding agents like Claude Code to ship quickly while keeping ownership of architecture, review, and technical judgment. He prefers to put his own words to paper and doesn't use LLMs to speak on his behalf outside of code and documentation. He has never written about him self in the third person prior to these few paragraphs.

Outside of work, he spends as much time outdoors as he can, hiking, backpacking, and camping. Otherwise he and his wife are usually at the game or at home with their 20-year-old chinchilla watching the Giants or Warriors struggle finish their seasons at .500.
